Below you will find some examples of the different styles of Aladdin hanging lamps. This is only a representation of the different styles and not a complete display of them. There are many hanging lamps that are not shown here since I am only showing those from within my collection at this time.
All the early metal lamps from the Practicus through the model-12 were offered as hanging lamps as well as table and bracket lamps. Further information on all the different models that were manufactured by the Aladdin Mantle Lamp Company and later by Aladdin Industries Inc. can be found in J. W. Courter's book "Aladdin the Magic Name in Lamps".
This is the Aladdin model-4 narrow frame hanging lamp, which features a brass chimney tube along with a reproduction #206 glass shade. The #206 reproduction shade was produced by a member of the Aladdin Knights collectors organization. It was available for a short time and was offered in several colors of slag glass, so you might come across lamps with the reproduction shades in other colors. The reproduction shades are marked. This lamp is complete with the original oil pot, burner, and flame spreader.
This is the original Aladdin #205 shade that was normally used on the model-4 narrow frame hanging lamp. I liked the looks of the reproduction #206 shade so I tucked the original shade away in a display cabinet for safe keeping. The Aladdin Mantle Lamp Co. did make an original #206 shade almost identical to the reproduction shown to the left, but it is extremely rare. In 52 years of collecting I have only seen two of the original green slag glass #206 shades!
An original model-6 Aladdin hanging lamp with metal chimney tube. The glass chimney fits inside the metal chimney tube, both to protect it from breakage, and to help diffuse the heat produced by the lamp when lit. The metal chimney tube is composed of two layers of metal. The inner tube is often plagued with corrosion, and it can be hard to find one in which both the metal tubes are in good condition. Both the model-5 and model-6 hanging lamps were offered with, or without, the chimney tubes, so if you find one without the metal tube, in reality it is probably not missing the tube, but rather was produced without one.
This is the Aladdin model-6 "ball shade" hanging lamp. The ball shade model-6 is one of the most unique hanging lamps ever offered by the Aladdin Mantle Lamp Company. The example pictured here happens to have an original glass shade making it a very rare lamp indeed. The ball shade for this lamp has been reproduced, however even the reproduction shades are extremely limited. Only about 45 of them were ever successfully manufactured, and all are marked to identify them as a reproduction. The reproduction shades themselves are highly collectible due to their limited production. The original glass shades for this lamp are extremely rare, and extremely fragile, which means they have a very high collector demand for one in perfect condition. The frame, oil pot, burner, and shade on the lamp in my collection are all in like new condition. It was a very lucky find!

This is a model-7 Aladdin hanging lamp. Note the postion of the oil fill on the lamp as it helps in identifying this model. It is postioned below the design at the top of the oil font. The oil fill on all model-7 lamps will be below the design.

This is a model-8 Aladdin hanging lamp. Note the position of the oil fill on it as well. On the model-8 the oil fill will be positioned "in" the design at the top of the oil font. The oil fill on all model-8 lamps will be in the design at the top of the font.

An original nickel plated model 12 four post hanging lamp complete with original 616 domed glass shade, and original smoke bell.

An original model 12 four post hanging Aladdin lamp in nickel finish with a very hard to find 616F "Poppy" glass shade. An often overlooked feature shown on this lamp is the the smoke bell and the bracket holding it are black. This is an original feature on the model 12 four post hanging lamps. I'm not sure that all of them were sold with this feature, but they have been found in sales brochures showing it.

Original model 12 four post hanging aladdin lamp with Japanese bronze finish and 616s scenic domed glass shade. The scene on the shade is painted on both sides of the glass. Part of the scene is painted on the inside of the glass shade and the other part is painted on the outside. It also has the original smoke bell which on many of the lamps is missing when found.

This is the model-12 four post hanging lamp with an original 620 shade. The shade is rather unique however since most of the 620 shades that are found have clear glass around the lower rim where the design is. There have been a few found that were entirely painted in white before firing them and this is one of them.

This is a model-12 four post hanging lamp with an original 620s scenic glass shade. The scenic shades are quite unusual since the colorful design of the glass shade was created having part of the design on the inside of the glass, and the rest on the outside of the it. This particular model-12 four post hanging lamp also has a bronze finish while most were finished in bright nickel.

Original "outside" chain Aladdin hanging lamp with original Whip-O-Lite flocked shade. The outside chain hanging lamp was designed for use only with paper shades and there were no glass shades designed to be used with it.

This is an original "inside" chain Aladdin hanging lamp with an original Whip-O-Lite shade. It is a rather unique lamp, and one that is not easily found. The shade is secured by clips which attach to a metal ring at the top of the shade. The metal ring itself is attached to the three chains of the frame by another set of clips. When found most of the inside chain lamps are missing the attachment that holds the shade. It is a rather complicated arrangement and there is no glass shade for this style of hanging lamp.
