The 12 inch Aladdin Ebony Venetian Art Craft vase lamp, with its sand finish, began as a clear glass vase. It was then painted a uniform black color on the inside and fired to bond the paint to the glass. After the process was complete the sand finish along with the gold band at the bottom of the base were hand applied to the outside. The lamp and shade combination shown here was featured in an Aladdin advertisement. They were giving it away as part of a promotion.
The sand pattern on the 12 inch Ebony vase can vary greatly in design as well as color. The sand decoration can vary from a gray that almost blends into the lamp, to a white that is quite pronounced. The vivid white finish is more desirable in the eyes of collectors. The amount of the sand finish can vary as well, from being quite sparse, to very dense. Since the finish on the outside was applied by hand, each lamp is really one of a kind.
